WEAVER'S WORLD / NARAYANPET / PLACES TO VISIT -5

It is a very small yet elegant fort in the center of the small town called Kurnool. You can spend around half an hour to 45 minutes at this place. Unlike other forts, this fort is made up of a stone with off-white color. It gives the feel of an European fort. Climbing up and reaching the top of the fort does not take more than 15 minutes. However, it gives a good view of the city. The famous Sai Baba temple is nearby.

Built in memory of Shivaji, the Maratha king who visited srisailam in 1677 AD, he built the northern tower of the Srisailam temple. It’s also said that the goddess appeared before him and bestowed him a sword to fight the evil, whereas another story goes that Tuljapur bhavani gifted him the sword. This place provides accommodation, free medical and food to the poor. A life size statue of Shivaji in bronze is in the temple which is located right behind the Bhramarambha temple.

Rollapadu is known for the Great Indian Bustard (GIB) in particular while we can also hope to see the Black Buck, Lesser Florican, Indian Courser, Indian Wolf, Fox, Jackal and quite a few other common species of fauna. One gets to see a lot of Black Buck and other fauna species. Covering an area of 6.14 km2 the sanctuary houses nearly 800 black bucks, wolves and other fauna. The best time to visit the sanctuary is between October and February. This is the time when a lot of migratory birds fly in.
