Places to visit in and around Kakinada
Ainavilli

Ainavilli is located at a distance of 72 Km from Kakinada (Via Yanam, Amalapuram and Mukteswaram). In the midst of the lush - green fields, coconut gardens, natural surroundings of the River Godavari area is where the "SIDDI VINAYAKA TEMPLE", a prominent pilgrimage centre, is situated. Daksha Prajapathi was supposed to have performed puja of Lord Vinayaka at this place praying and asking for the successful completion of performing Daksha Yagna. According to another legend, it is said that Vyasa Maharshi installed a Ganapathi idol here before starting his tour of South India, thus establishing the temple with magnificent gopurams and gateways. Built in a large, extended, and upraised area, this temple has two gopurams (towers) sculpted skillfully with tales and idols related to the deity present in the temple. One can access this temple from two sides i.e. from the south and from the east. One can approach from the south where it leads one to the shrine of the presiding deity Sri Siddhi Vinayaka Swamy and from the east one can approach Sri Vishveshwara Swamy. The presiding deity, Sri Siddhi Vinayaka Swamy has been installed in a unique way i.e. in the Southwest corner facing the South direction. It is believed that if one installs Sri Siddhi Vinayaka Swamy facing in the south direction, it brings wealth and prosperity.

Coringa Forest and Hope Island

Mangrove forests are rare. This one which is well grown and fortunately well protected gives the new knowledge how plants adopt to nature. Well laid-out bridges and foot paths give the visitor an in depth knowledge of these mangroves. All plants are named with the scientific name plus local name and the staff provides help where needed.A motorised launch and a knowledgeable guide take one up the river up-to the mouth of the sea.

Adurru Excavation Site

It is said to be an ancient village in ruins and history lovers would love to visit this place. The ASI excavated the site in 1923 to find many Buddhist monuments and traces. The route to this place is very scenic during the winters and one can experience the village culture. Adurru Village is situated in Razole Taluk and is famous for its excavated monuments. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) undertook excavations in 1953 and found the ruins of Buddhist Stupas, Viharas and Chaityas. The prime attraction of the site is the Mahastupa, which is 17 ft in diameter and has been constructed like a wheel on a raised platform. The excavation led to the unveiling of numerous other ancient artefacts like dishes, jars, troughs and bowls of kaolin and red pottery. The inhabitants of the village called the Adurru mound as 'Dubaraju Gudi'.

Coringa Wildlife Sanctuary

Wonderful mangroves, forest department’s boat ride and a wooden walking bridge into the mangroves is a natural delight and there’s a watch tower to see across the forest area and to see the rare seasonal birds fly off here. It’s very easily accessible from Kakinada.

Annavaram

Annavaram is situated at a distance 51 Km from Kakinada.You have the popular Lord Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy Temple. Apart from the fact that the place is sacred, tourists are also attracted to this place because of its immense natural beauty and panoramic views surrounding it. From this hill top you can get a panoramic view of the surrounding green fields and villages. This sacred Hindu pilgrim center is located on a hilltop called Ratnagiri. There´s a story how the name Ratnagiri came to be called. Meruvu, the lord of the hills and his consort Menaka did great penance and begot two sons by the grace of Lord Vishnu. One was named Bhadra and the other Ratnakar. Bhadra pleased Lord Vishnu with his devotion and penance and with His grace became Bhadrachalam on which Lord Sri Rama had permanently settled. Ratnakara desired to emulate his brother and succeeded in pleasing Lord Vishnu by his penance and with His grace became Ratnagiri (hill) on which Lord Sri Vishnu settled on him as Lord Sri Veera Venkata Satyanarayana Swamy. Later, a temple was built in 1891 by Sri I.V. Ramanarayana, a zamindar, as said to have been commanded by the Lord in his dream. The idol was traced from the hill and placed at the current spot which we now know as Annavaram.

Apart from the main temple, there is also a temple of Lord Sri Rama and then the temples of Vana Durga and Kanaka Durga which are held in great veneration.
