14 Ways To Creatively Re-Fashion Your Old Bandhani Sarees

You are still not hooked up to wearing the saree and your regular attire is more of the casual or cool type. Your mother could be having a couple or more sarees of the Bandhani variety that she wears no more or could do without.

Here is the opportunity to create something new for yourself and if she is game, something for her too.

The Bandhani with its patterns of dancing dots, its variants like Leheria (brightly coloured complex wave designs) or the Shibori (pattern of soft or blurry-edged sketches) are all exotic and liked by most Indian women.

Choose your sarees, go through the suggestions and decided what new outfit you would be creating for yourself. Let’s get started.

You could just change your old Bandhani Saree into a new one

Generally a silk saree gets affected at the border or at times, the pallu.

If there is a used Bandhani saree with frayed pallu or slightly torn edges, unleash your creativity.

If you have the confidence do it yourself at home. Or with the help of a tailor, rip off the pattu border. Stitch it up with new Kundan work, sequin, or zari based patch work border. Add some tassels or pom poms to the pallu. You have a new Bandhani saree at your disposal.

For the bottom and dupatta, you could use another old saree or mix and match it with what you have.

What about a Kurta made from the old Bandhani Saree?

The Lehenga or half saree with the Bandhani design from an old silk saree is a great option. If you do not have enough for the entire outfit, use it in bits and pieces. Once you cut out enough for the lehenga, use the rest for the blouse.
