Sonam Kapoor - an acknowledged diva of style and fashion from Bollywood

People who repeatedly attack your confidence and self-esteem are quite aware of your potential, even if you are not.

Tall, lissome and looking strikingly attractive in every public appearance she makes, especially life-size events like Award functions, Celebrity weddings, Reality shows and the very prestigious Red Carpet event at International Film Festivals, the cool and confident Sonam Kapoor, knowing that she is being gazed over for what she is wearing then, the stylish fashion icon of Bollywood is like a queen when she takes centre stage of people’s attention. See some sensations of the diva called Sonam Kapoor Ahuja.

Daughter of famed actor Anil Kapoor and Sunita Kapoor, former model & designer, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja  has acquired certain sterling qualities of both, but is a very strong-willed, independent-minded who has struck a path of her own. With a father who was an established actor, surrounded by other relations established in Bollywood, an acting career presented itself naturally to her. Also with it came the pressure to do well. She has done movies which gave her a fair amount of success and others that did not do much for her career. But she has never been fazed by box office results, and her approach continues to be to strive and do better.

Kapoor's first job was as a waitress at age 15, although it lasted only a week. As a teenager she faced health issues & weight. Perhaps that is why it made her so very sensitive to others’ health problems. When she enrolled for her pre-university education in a college in Singapore, she got the opportunity to study Theatre and Arts. She did a correspondence programme in Economics and Political Science after returning to Mumbai. When Rani Mukherjee visited the family in 2005 while working on Black, Sonam expressed a desire to work as a crew member in the film.

On her Father Anil Kapoor’s recommendation Sonam Kapoor began her professional life as an assistant director to Sanjay Leela Bhansali in 2005 for the movie Black. She had expressed her desire to work as a writer and director for films, so her Father advised her to do so by being under an established director in order to learn the ropes.

During the shooting of Black when Sanjay Bhansali expressed his willingness to shoot his next movie Saawariya with her, she was thrilled by the confidence of the director in her. She seriously took to losing 35 Kg. in two years showing her attitude towards professionalism then itself.

Sonam’s Filmy career

After her debut as assistant to director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for the film Black, he invited her to be the female lead in his forthcoming Saawariya opposite Ranbir Kapoor. Both debuted. The movie did not do well at the box office. She tasted a bit of commercial success with I Hate Luv Storys and Aisha (2010). Then a few flops followed which got her negative reviews. Then came Raanjhanaa opposite Tamil star Dhanush (2013). That was her turning point.

Bhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013), Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (2015), Neerja (2016), Sanju (2018) & Veere Di Wedding (2018) - all served to get her recognition and accolades.  In 2018 she also did Padman and the film did well.  Ek Ladki ko Dekha tho Aisa Laga (2019) and Zoya Factor (2019) kept her on the success trail.

On 8 May 2018, Kapoor married Indian businessman Anand Ahuja in a traditional Sikh ceremony in Bandra, Mumbai.

Her major strength lies in Fashion

Blessed with more than average height for an Indian woman, the Indian saree or any other form of clothing like salwar kameez, Anarkali, western outfits are given a new twist when she wears them. No wonder she has carved out a niche for herself in stylish fashion.

Never one to shy from experimentation, Sonam Kapoor Ahuja always finds unexpected ways to upgrade a classic sari. Some of her tips come in very handy for those who wish to experiment themselves.

“I'm so unapologetically myself, I think it's the reason why people like the way I dress,” Sonam Kapoor Ahuja told Vogue during a live conversation on Instagram.

Whether it’s soon-to-be-launched collections or custom couture, the Bollywood actor has a knack for making every look her own. Saris worn with overcoats, ready-to-wear dresses styled with vintage gloves and making kaftans wedding-ready, are just some instances that prove her love for pushing the envelope on tried-and-tested looks.
