WEAVER'S WORLD / THANE / PLACES TO VISIT -2
THANE
Naneghat Hills

This place is closer to Pune. It is a trek with the difficulty level being moderate. The best season to visit is July and August. From base to top it is about 13 Km. The route is through the wilderness with need to cross rivers, waterfalls etc. This is a land of mist especially in the monsoons. You can either choose to trek (it is not easy) or you can take a vehicle to the very top. At the top, the scene is beautiful, a great view, at times mist, very strong winds (so strong winds that the water from waterfalls flows in the air and upwards). Good to have hot tea and snacks.

Naneghat Hills
Shri Bhuvan Bhanu Jain Manas Mandir Tirtha

Located on top of hill, surrounded by lake and nature at its best, this Jain Temple is built covering large spaces around with marble stone and antique stones. Properly maintained by the Trust, the idols are made from PANCHDHATU (five metals) material. There is cleanliness, hygiene and tranquility everywhere. The temple is situated around 50 kms from Thane, off Mumbai-Nasik highway, surrounded by hills. It has become a pilgrim center for the jains and a place of interest for tourists from all walks of life.

Kelwa Beach

This is one best beach around Mumbai and very easily accessible. Surrounded by teak trees from all sides it provides a great view. There is good accommodation and the Sheetla Devi temple to visit as well. The beach is located away from the city hustle bustle, so you can have a peaceful time. The place around is not much developed. The beach is okay, with a few food stalls, horse riding and camel rides. This makes the beach a little crowded on weekends and evenings. However if you are willing to walk a few hundred meters north or south, you will get the privacy you need.

Jaysagar Lake

Jaysagar lake is a cool and calm place to visit. Definitely more beautiful in the rainy season, it is good to just to sit at the banks of the lake and relax.

Shitila Devi Temple

This temple is more than 300 years old. Located at Mahim in Mumbai, this goddess Shitila Devi is very highly worshiped by Mumbaikars and especially those residing at Mahim. There are also temples of Lord Vittal and Goddess Shantadurga. Daily prayers are conducted. Flower and garland vendors stall are found in temple premises. A very holy environment!
