WEAVER'S WORLD / THANE / PLACES TO VISIT -1
An ancient and pious temple of Lord Ganesh, it is known for its swayambu Ganesh (made by nature not man) though is not as popular as the Siddhi Vinayak Temple, Mumbai. Yet people do visit it in large numbers. Also known as Jagrut Ganesh temple it is supposed to make your wishes come true. A very nice and quiet place that can be easily visited by rail or road, it gets heavily crowded during the Ganesha Festival. People generally visit before and after weddings, purchases of items like vehicles, starting new ventures etc. for the Lord’s blessings. It is situated in a suburb of Mumbai called Titwala. Nearby Vitthala and Rukmayi temple can also be visited.

Manas Mandir is a very beautiful temple made up of white marble carving. Entire area is very huge and well maintained. One of the most attractive places close to Mumbai that one can visit where clouds touch the mountains and nature is echoed by the birds and the atmosphere is serene. Manas Mandir is a Jain temple, situated on hill and near a river, about 50 kms from Thane. It’s a large complex, comprising of few temples and Dharamshalas, surrounded by lush greenery and picturesque hills. The temple complex is located on the Mumbai-Nashik highway. Besides the main temple, there is a children's park and a lake. There is also a bhojanalaya which serves pure vegetarian Jain meals in the day. The complex is well maintained and very peaceful. Women need to cover their head when entering the main temple. Its a nice long drive from Mumbai and there are several food joints and food courts on the highway.

Cool and serene, this lake is surrounded by beautiful mountains on one side and high rise buildings on the other. Located at the base of the Yeoor hills, this is a nice place to go for morning or evening walks or runs. The layout is a mix of man-made creations backed by nice mountain lines of the Borivali national park and a beautiful lake with lord Shiva's statue right in the middle of the lake.

It’s a very nice place for a one day picnic, moderate trek with excellent views. The trek trail goes through dense jungle. One can spend the night at the fort. Fresh drinking water is available. The best time to visit is after Monsoon. The trek is not for beginners. You need to push yourself to reach the top. There is a small Shiva temple, a small cave and fresh mountain water on the top. The view from the top as well as on the way up is breath-taking. Mahuli Hills are a UNESCO acknowledged site.
