- Yarn threads that are to be woven are applied bindings (anything that can prevent dye seeping in like rubber) in pre-determined patterns. They are then dyed to the desired color. These threads are then woven to produce the desired pattern within the weave.
- When there are several colors involved, dyeing has to be repeated with the bindings in the required places each time till all the chosen colors are completed. This is the tie and dye method according to the ikkat style.
