Aloo Bread Pakoda – Delhi’s favourite street food

Had hot, accompanied well and with a hot drink, it is most gratifying to the one who consumes.


It is the Aloo Bread Pakoda.


Simple, fast to make and consumed even faster, this is a popular favourite with the inmates of Delhi.

  • Gram flour - 2 cups
  • Bread slices - 8
  • Potato - 5 (boiled)
  • Green coriander - 2-3 tbsp (finely chopped)
  • Ginger paste - 1 tsp or grated
  • Green chilly - 1-2 (minced)
  • Salt - 1 tsp or as per taste
  • Cumin seeds – ¼ tsp
  • Red chilly powder – ½ tsp
  • Turmeric powder - less than ¼ tsp
  • Mango powder – ½ tsp
  • Coriander powder - 1 tsp
  • Garam masala – ¼ tsp
  • Oil - for frying

Making the Aloo Bread Pakoda


Preparing the batter


  • Take the gram flour in a big bowl
  • Add half the amount of salt and red chilly powder
  • Now add water little by little, stirring slowly till a batter of fine consistency is readymake-indian-bread-pakora-with-manjula.1280x600

Preparing the stuffing


  • Pre-heat a pan. Add 1 tbsp oil in it.
  • Peel and mash the potatoes.
  • When the oil is heated, add cumin seeds, turmeric powder, green chilly, ginger paste to it.
  • Saute for 2 minutes.
  • Add coriander powder, potatoes, mango powder, red chilly powder, garam masala, salt, green coriander.
  • Mix everything well. Saute for 2 minutes.
  • Stuffing is ready. Take on plate and keep aside for cooling.

  • Pre-heat oil in a pan.
  • Take a bread slice, put some stuffing on it, place another slice over the stuffing.
  • Press gently to seal.
  • Cut the bread into 2 pieces. Give it a triangular shape.
  • Get all the bread slices ready similarly.
  • Coat the bread with the gram flour batter. Place it in the warm oil for frying.
  • Fry until both sides are golden brown.
  • Once fried put on a plate with absorbent paper.
  • Prepare the remaining bread slices similarly.
  • Your bread pakodas are hot and ready.
  • serve with chutney or sauce. Have a steaming mug of tea or coffee in the other hand.
