Narayanpet Sarees are traditional handlooms made in Narayanpet, a town in Mahbubnagar District, Telangana, India. The saree is known by its characteristic Zari check patterns on a silk or cotton body with a contrasting colour temple border and plain border on both sides. A family tradition involving all its members, Narayanpet handlooms are woven in silk and cotton, though the preference was once more for silk on account of the returns.

Narayanpet Sarees originally came through a Marathi influence; patronage of Shivaji, the Marathi ruler. Later it continued as a tradition and flourishes very much today. Wearing a Narayanpet Saree is considered auspicious, and offering of the same is meant for the Goddess, even today.

The Narayanpet handloom sarees are handloom silks with fine lustre and the double colour shimmering effect. The body colour contrasts with that of the pallu and the characteristic wide zari border and stripes, elevate the look and appeal of the saree. It generally has a good fineness count of 80:80. Fineness count is a number expressing mass per unit length. Higher the count, finer the material! Employing vegetable dyes to the extent possible, the Narayanpet Saree has fast colours. Narayanpet handloom sarees are traditionally woven in the interlocked-weft technique which improves the strength of the weave. The influence of the temple is strong hence the temple style border is a characteristic feature on almost all the sarees woven.
