COIMBATORE
Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park

Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park is a protected area located in the Anaimalai Hills of Pollachi. Anamalai means Hill of Elephants. A forest vehicle is available for visiting. A visitor can see captive elephants, and some wild animals. One could rate this park high because of the wildlife sightings a lot of greenery, scenic places and the weather is simply superb. On the other side is Parambikulam sanctuary a few kms away from this place.

Thirumoorthi Dam

Thirumoorthi Dam is located about 50 plus Km from Pollachi in Udumalpet district near Coimbatore. It’s a good one day trip that a family or friends can plan, where you can get to visit the Thirumoorthi temple that is near this dam. The dam has beautiful mountains in the background that makes for a beautiful photograph. If you are there during the sunset it gives a nice light effect to capture.

This dam has boating for visitors. From the dam at few kilometers is the famous Thirumoorthi temple situated at end side of the dam on the bank of the forest stream which flows into the dam. Cars and vehicles can reach here. On crossing the stream we can enter the hill area which has foot path available which will lead to the waterfalls and also the panchalinga temple. A nice area to spend more than half a day. Another dam, Amaravathi, is at 15 kms from here.

Sree Ayyappan Temple

The holy Ayyappan temple is revered by both the locals and tourists. The magnificent temple was constructed in 1976 by the Sri Dharma Sastha Baktha Jana Sabha which was similar to the Ayyappan temple in Sabrimalai. This temple is called second sabari mala by devotees. All the doors and woods are carved in old antique style. At the time of closing the door they play Chanda a musical instrument. The chanthanam we get there is special made with pure sandal woods and paneer. The Architecture is good.

Kovai Kondattam Theme Park

This is a small theme park but offers great fun. It is one of three water parks in Coimbatore. It is located on the way to Siruvani. This is comparatively smaller in size than the theme parks in this region. This place has changed dramatically from what it was. Lots of new things are on the verge of getting added, a state of the Art Luxury Resort which the people of Coimbatore badly need. Rooms and Cottages with private pools, the Landscape having improved, the Luxury resort is going to be open for Public soon.

Sri Ranganathar Temple

A very short distance from Coimbatore and surprisingly you are drawn into the lap of Mother Nature. This is one of the oldest temples in Coimbatore but most people are not aware of this temple.

Palamalai is around 30 kms from Coimbatore. The route is Thudiyalur-Perianaikenpalayam-Kovanur-Palamalai. The route is pictureseque. The best time to visit is during the monsoons, when everything is green and fresh.
