Avadhoota Datta Peetham

Avadhuta is a Sanskrit term referring to a type of mystic or saint who is beyond egoist-conscience, duality and common worldly concerns, having acquired certain divine and miraculous powers and virtues. A divine place very beautiful and well maintained where one can see the nada mantapam, a Bonsai Garden, many temples, a crystal museum and the newly added rare colorful birds that are innumerable and superb. The satsangs at the Ashram are very relaxing.

One of the most revered pontiffs in India, a resident of Mysore city, Karnataka, India, Sri Ganapathy Sachchidananda Swamiji is the founder of “Avadhoota Datta Peetham” which is spread over 40 acres land lying at the foot of Chamundi Hill, that has been functioning as head quarters of Swamiji's Mission. One can see the ‘Universal Prayer Hall’ where traditional Pujas and Homas are performed. Here the Swamiji propagates teachings of Lord Dattatreya Avadhoota. A temple for Lord Dattatreya, three headed God, has been constructed in the Ashram. Lord Dattatreya is said to be the eternal teacher in Hindu philosophical field. He is the Manifestation of Triple Principle of Sat (Existence), Chit (Knowledge) and Ananda (Bliss); that is why ‘Satchidananda’.

The idol here is dedicated to Kalagnisamana Dattatreya and first of 50 Datta Temples in India and abroad. Sri Datta Venkateswara temple reminds one of Lord Tirumala. Nada Mandapam is a gigantic auditorium where music, dance and other culture programs are conducted. A monolith octagonal stone Pillar ‘Dharmadhwajam’ is of 45’ long having various symbols of world religions, Yoga, Philosophy, Music is attractive. You will be pleased by sound and light show (40 min program), which entertains you to highly intellectual plane of Self (Atman).

Bala Tripura Sundari Temple

Bala Tripurasundari temple is a small shrine situated close to famous Chamundeswari temple in Mysore in State of Karnataka in India. The main deity is Goddess Bala Tripurasundari, known as Kumarika. ‘Bala’ in this context means boy/girl hood. Tripurasundari is another name or form of Goddess Parvathi, the consort of Lord Shiva. ‘Tripura’ indicates three cities or three worlds namely Swarga (Heaven), Marthya (Earth) and Pathala (world below earth). Meaning thereby she is the most beautiful goddess in the three worlds. Architecturally, the temple is quite beautiful and adorned with intricate carvings. The front Gopura with three storied structure is attractive with its shape, height and kalashas. The lamp post in front of the Gopura looks artistically designed. After passing few steps enter the temple through this Gopura. The idol of goddess Bala Tripurasundari appears to be of three feet height. She has four hands. She holds a parrot, which is her favourite talking friend, weapons in two hands and other hands points at her feet to indicate abhaya means protection for devotees. The icon is attractive and pleasing hence the name Tripurasundari.

Her idol is guarded by an arch-like metal with carvings of traditional animals. It is said it represents Lord Bhyrava who acts like body guard to prevent evil spirits from entering or going near Her. The pleasing smell of flowers of garland is felt at the entrance of the sanctum sanctorum itself. She is artistically dressed with a coloured saree and is dressed in different coloured sarees every day that make Her look charming. Arathi is performed after service of hymns. At that time when Her face is shown in the light of burring camphor it makes the spectator/devotees dumb witnesses and fold their hands automatically with all devotion and reverence. That is the speciality of this wonderful and most beautiful goddess Tripurasundari.
