Belum Caves

These are natural underground caves formed by the constant flow of underground water. As recent as 2002, the Tourism Development Corporation developed the caves as a tourist attraction. Today, 3.5 km of the cave has been successfully explored, though only 1.5 km is open to tourists. The caves are formed in black limestone and has deposits of quartz. A well-maintained place there is provision for walking underground with lighting in the passages and formations. It is supposed to be the second largest cave in the Indian subcontinent and also one of the longest caves. When inside the cave, you tend to stop at regular intervals to admire the beauty of natural rock formations never-before witnessed by the eyes. As one progresses forward the width starts to narrow.

Mantralayam is located in Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh, about 300 kms. from Hyderabad and 100 kms. from Kurnool. This is a holy place by the banks of the Tungabhadra River and this is where the great Saint Sri Raghavendra Swamy attained his 'Moksha' as a 'Jeevan Mukta' (= the Liberated one, while being in the mortal body) One can take a walk up the Tungabhadra River. The River is so serene and calm and the flow of the river waters gentle and smooth that it calms the mind. Every evening there is a palanquin ride to the Swamy within the spacious precincts of the huge Temple Complex itself and it is truly a divine sight. If you talk about weekend getaways from Hyderabad, there are many places that come into mind. I feel this place Yaganti needs a special mention. This place is known for Uma maheshwara temple or (Yaganti swamy) and Lord Venkatesthwara caves and various other caves. This is about 80 kms from kurnool, around 310 kms from Hyderabad. This place has Puskarani. You also have a main Ardhanareshwara (Uma maheshwara) idol. It is said that, a dip in pushkarani and visit to the temple, is very beneficial.

No one knows from where the water comes to this, in all seasons.

This might probably the only place where lord shiva is worshiped in the form of idol, instead of Shiva Linga
