About Us

Unnati’s journey in textiles, especially handloom fabrics, started in 1980 when Unnati Silk Prints Private Limited came into existence, in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

“Unnati” is from the Sanskrit language, meaning “constant progress towards success”. Right from the start, the goal has been – “delivering the best” to the customers and till date there has been no slackness in the efforts to meet it.

Unnati started as a single small store that rapidly progressed to a big one and then branched to several in the city of Hyderabad itself. Today the seed of the single shop has flowered into a family enterprise with global operations that includes manufacturing and printing activities of fabrics in wholesale that is also sold in retail and online.

From the beginning, Unnati has had its strength in traditional handlooms, by concentrating its mite there. An association with master weavers and craftsmen in traditional handloom pockets across India has been with the idea of contributing to the cause of Indian ethnic that aims to foster and encourage the skills and craftsmanship of the Indian handloom weaver, by providing opportunities for growth and propagation.

During the journey we realized, that the market for handlooms has been showing a rising trend in the demand for original, artistic, eye-catching designs that we sensed could be met partially with the manner in which the sarees were printed. In 1993, a separate textile printing unit was established under the small scale industrial policy. The initial experiments with innovative designs and unique fashionable prints but with the use of traditional Indian printing methods were received enthusiastically.

The year 1995 saw Unnati registered as a Private Limited Company. Looking to the volume of business and the tremendous response of the market to our novel sarees, a branch office at Kolkata (a hub also for extraordinary embroidery work) in 2006, was inevitable.

In the year 2000, another store "Prakriti Dress Materials" which exclusively stores Unstitched Salwar Kameez Fabrics, was set up. The word "Prakriti" is also taken from the Sanskrit language, meaning "Nature".

Prakriti was mainly to cater to the growing demand for the modern stylish salwar kameez that has caught the fancy of the primarily Indian, USA, Canadian and UK markets.

Unnati Silks has an enviable collection of 300 + Saree Varieties and 60 + Salwar Kameez Varieties  from 21 States of India. Available at Unnati's Stores and selectively displayed on the website, it would not be wrong in claiming it as the widest range of Indian ethnic handloom Sarees and Salwar Kameez available under a single banner.

Unnati also has a new-look range of handloom kurtis and kurtas and a vibrant designer section of fancy fabrics clubbed under Unnati Concepts, that has received a tremendous response.

Unnati Silks, despite the changing market conditions, has always maintained attractive and affordable rates that has built for it a solid base of loyal customers who have been associated with Unnati for years, and the number is growing.
