The word "Dharwad" means a place of rest in a long travel or a small habitation. Dharwad is one of the major cities on the Mumbai - Bangalore railway line and on the Pune - Bangalore National Highway (NH4). The twin cities of Hubli-Dharwad are located at a distance of around 420 KM north of Bangalore, the capital of Karnataka state and 550 KM south of Mumbai. It is surrounded by hills and lakes.

Efforts are being made for air connectivity from Hubli - Mumbai and getting clearance from DGCA for night landing facilities at Hubli Airport, upgradation of Terminal Building, Runway, etc., at Hubli Airport

Rail :
Hubli is a major rail junction on the Mumbai to Bangalore route and for trains to Bijapur and Hospet. Hubli is also well connected to some places like Vasco da Gama and Margao in Goa. Hubli is an important junction in the rail route between Bangalore and Goa. Both Dharwad and Hubli are linked by road and Rail facilities with other parts of the country. Road :
Situated in the heart of the city, Dharwad Bus Station is connected by National Highway 4 (Pune-Bangalore). Buses ply from Dharwad to Mumbai, Pune, Belgaum, Kolhapur, Hospet, Shirsi, Bhatkal, Bangalore, Mangalore, Mysore, Goa and other major cities and towns in Karnataka and neighbouring states of South India. The Airport at Hubli (18 km) is the nearest airport to Dharwad. The town is well connected with a network of rails and roads

Someshwara Temple :
It is one of the oldest temples just outskirts of Dharwad built in 12th century by Chalukyas, near SDM college. The temple has statues of MahishaMardini , Chaturbhuja Ganapati . Someshwara is a beautiful place with surrounding hills and trees and pond.
Murugha Math :
This is situated on Savadatti Road. The great Sant Mrityunjaya who was the head the math, fed hundreds of students who came from villages to study @ schools and colleges of Dharwad. Every Monday there will be lectures / music conducted in the premises of the math.

Chandramouleshwara temple Unkal (Hubli-Dharwad):
A temple of chalukya times, dedicated to god Chandramouleshvara ( another name of Shiva), Chandramouleshwara temple Hubli, with impressive architecture can be seen in Hubli.
Bhavanishankar Temple : This Chalukyan temple with the image of Sri Narayana is flanked by the ten incarnations of God. It was built by Mohammed Ali Shah in about 1646 to serve as a hall of justice. Women are not allowed inside.
Nrupatunga Hill : This is a beautiful hilly picinic spot in Hubli.
Siddharoodha Math : is the eminent religious institution, a centre of Advaita philosophy as preached by Swami Siddharoodha, located at near outskirts of Hubli
Unkal Lake : A pictorial water spot with a magnificent sunset view, this perfect picnic spot has green garden, recreational facilities for the children, boating facilities, etc. The lake is 3 km away from Hubli.
Glass House : As the name suggests, this is a unique palace made of glass.
